Waterfall

The sun was out in force today, with the temperature climbing to 32C by 4pm. The project for today was to shift a tonne of water from an unused and badly-sited cube down to the new cubes, the purpose here being two-fold: first, to get some water to the new cubes so I can start irrigating the spuds and the new oat patch; and secondly, to lighten the unused cube so I can shift it to a slightly more sensible position.

So, first job was to assemble and join all the various pipes, tubes and guttering I can find to form a temporary conduit, because I’m damned if I’m shifting a tonne of water by hand. Anyway, it would all run through my fingers. I had exactly enough tubing to do the job, though it took most of the morning to splice them all together.

The picture shows the last 20 metres or so of the guttering. I didn’t take a picture of the pipes, partly because the camera battery was starting to bleat pitifully, but mostly because it’s not the most exciting photo opportunity, and I appreciate my global audience has high standards.

A very peaceful time, with the sounding of cascading water, the sun warm on my back, and the sound of the imperial eagles mewing overhead as they circled in the thermals high above.

I have a feeling it might rain in the next day or so, though I’m not sure why, as the sky is a cloudless blue. So first job tomorrow is to move the old cube to its new position, where it can catch the runoff from the stone shed.
